Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for NGIS

NGIS is an acronym for Next Generation Incubation Scheme. It is a futuristic Incubation scheme which offers comprehensive support & services to technology Start-ups. The support will be offered from various STPI incubation facilities which have pan-India footprint.

NGIS has been formulated as a futuristic incubation scheme to identify and support Start-ups/ Innovators working towards solutions/outstanding software products for futuristic problems/emerging ICT technology/societal problem statement with effective solutions. It is pertinent to mention that, NGIS will be instrumental in achieving the vision of NPSP (National Policy on Software Product)-2019, which is to make the country a global player in development, production and supply of Innovative, Efficient and Secure Software Products.

Some of the core objectives of NGIS are as below:

  • To identify Start-ups working towards solutions/outstanding software products for futuristic problems/emerging ICT technology/societal problems.
  • To provide vibrant software product ecosystem in Tier-2 cities of India to complement the robust IT industry for continued growth, new employment and enhance competitiveness.
  • To support identified Start-ups by providing the required world-class ecosystem.
  • To provide Challenge/internship grant.
  • To create IT/software product unicorns for generation of wealth and employment in the country.

NGIS will conduct online challenge contest from time-to-time basis to select Start-ups. Selected Start-ups shall be eligible to get benefits provided by NGIS, which include, but not limited to the following:

  • Ready to work Plug-n-Play incubation space along with high speed internet access.
  • Mentoring support.
  • Networking opportunities/Industry connected Go-to market support for exhibiting/showcasing products/solutions through events/workshops/exhibitions.
  • Access to VCs for funding support.
  • Full- fledged security & vulnerability testing of Software Products through the dedicated Software Product Security Testing (SPST) facility.
  • Advisory services such as HR, Legal, Accounting, etc.
  • IPR/Patent facilitation support.

  • A seed funding (Equity/ Equity based instrument) of up to Rs. 25.00 Lakhs will be provided through Financial Institution to each beneficiary/supported Start-ups selected through the challenge program under NGIS based on innovative idea, novel solutions, strong team & sound business proposal.
    1. I.  Disbursal of seed fund to Start-ups will be based on milestones achieved, periodic review and recommendations.
    2. II. Seed funding to Start-ups will be against equity participation by STPI or its affiliate.
  • Start-ups who are in ideation stage may be selected under pre-incubation program & mentored for up to six months to evolve their business plan & solution around the proposed idea. Each intern (start-up under pre-incubation) will be paid Rs. 10,000/- per month for a period of 6 months.
  • Cloud Credits from leading third-party service providers.
  • NGIS’ existing and increasing base of collaborations/ partnership with Industry & industry associations will provide numerous opportunities to Start-ups/incubatees for marketing and showcasing their products & solutions.
  • STPI will provide platform and forum at events organized by industry/industry associations across pan-India locations from time to time basis.
  • STPI will organize events to help Start-ups/incubatees in showcasing their technologies, prototype, products and solutions to prospective clients and users by inviting them to its premises and/or by facilitating participation of the Start-ups/ incubatees in trade technology events.

Yes, in order to educate beneficiaries about the Start-ups ecosystem and to keep them abreast of the latest industry trends, regular workshops, seminars & trainings will be conducted as part of NGIS. These events will not be specific to technology domain or a phase of operation (like marketing) but about overall Start-up environment, trends, intellectual property, formal procedures (legal, statutory, regulatory etc.) etc.

As part of NGIS, CHUNAUTI (Challenge Hunt Under NGIS for Advance Uninhibited Technology Intervention) program will be conducted from time-to-time basis in association with industry partners as well as central/state government departments and agencies. Start-ups may participate in this challenge program, and the selected Start-ups will become the beneficiary of NGIS.

All the applications received shall be subject to a rigorous multi-tier screening process with involvement of subject matter experts from respective domain and/or location as deemed fit.

The mode of participation is online. Applicants can submit their application through the link https://ngis.stpi.in.

The shortlisted startup will be informed via email on their selection with instructions on the subsequent steps.

It should be clear to the participants that by participating in the challenge program you are giving your consent that your idea/innovation will be shared with the selection/screening committee(s)/host organization throughout the selection process. However, we would like to assure the applicants that submitted ideas/innovations are protected in the spirit of non-disclosure and wouldn’t be shared with any third party without taking prior consent. Yes, all the participants own the rights to their ideas/innovations.
